Photoionization detectors (PIDs) use lamps to ionize and detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other gases in ambient air. This type of instrument is both inexpensive and efficient for several vapor and gas analytes. Our PID models are manufactured by industry leaders, read instantaneously, and operate continuously for rated battery life. Some models log and time stamp data at user-defined intervals, others also add time-weighted averages (TWA) and short-term exposure limits (STEL), and a few have expanded ranges to include parts per billion (ppb) measurement. PIDs are used in arson investigation, soil screening, industrial hygiene/indoor air quality, hazardous materials handling, etc.
