The 15-pound dredge is constructed from stainless steel and powder-coated carbon steel for corrosion resistance. The top of the sampling chamber is screened to allow water flow during deployment and reduce the frontal shock wave that may displace sediment as the dredge contacts the sample surface. Its two-way spring-loaded mechanism prevents accidental closure while the dredge is in transit and activates on contact with the bottom. The dredge is ideal for obtaining most types of bottom material. The 6-inch x 6-inch opening provides an effective sampling area of 36 square inches. Jaws, top screen, side plates, underlip plate, screen frame, fasteners, and hinge pin are all constructed of stainless steel; exterior weights and closing arms are powder-coated steel.
